Planting Seeds
God is working even when we can’t see it. Keep planting seeds.
In the book The Well Watered Woman, by Gretchen Saffles, she talks about wildflowers. Numerous times in my life I’ve driven down the highway in Texas and seen a sudden brilliant burst of color on the median of Indian paint brush flowers mixed with bluebonnets in the Spring. It seems to happen suddenly, after a cold winter of gray short days. Then, in a blink of an eye, God brings in the Spring with an abundance of brilliant colors. God, however, knows there was nothing immediate about this creation. The seeds of these flowers have been germinating and preparing to sprout under the dirt for months, before they spring up from the ground in all their glory and kaleidoscopic color.
It’s the same thing in seeds we plant in our every day lives. In how we live, how we love our neighbors, what we say, what we do on a daily basis. Are we planting seeds of kindness (acts of service)? Are we directing others to Jesus by how we live and speak and act? Scripture says, “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening, let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.” God wants us to read His word, and then plant those seeds in all we do and say. He will germinate those seeds and let them grow to whatever blooms He has in store for them. He’s working in ways we cannot see.
I was thinking about a baby being formed in a mother’s womb. From two people coming together out of love and passion, God creates life. We can’t see what’s being formed in a woman’s belly, except the size as the baby grows. But think about the miracle that is happening under the surface of the mother’s skin. Bones and a heart and a circulation system. A DNA, fingerprints, a soul, a unique personality. God is working ALWAYS behind the scenes even in ways we cannot see or comprehend. “As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the maker of all things.” Ecclesiastes 11:5
Do the work, plant the seeds, let God take it from there. We can be His vessels, if we let Him work through us. It takes trust, obedience, and patience that He is working in ways we can’t see.
“Live today for what is going to matter 10 billion years from today. “. David Platt
•Today’s decisions affect tomorrow’s destination.
•Today’s faithfulness affects tomorrow’s fruitfulness.
•Today’s investment affects tomorrow’s blooms.
In our quest for a fruitful life, it’s important to remember that blooms aren’t continuous. They come and go, but that doesn’t mean the moments in between are unnecessary or less important. Blooms result from fruitful labor done in the planting, the rooting, the growing, and the waiting. You can’t enjoy a flower without the long process that brought it to that point. (Pg 259)
God’s working a masterpiece in each one of our lives. Give him the paint brush. Be the canvas. Reflect and live the beautiful picture, and plant the seeds for others to do the same.
